About the Event

Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust (GHCT) supports congregations looking after Christian buildings of any

denomination in our area. They contribute to the costs of vital repairs and improvements to the buildings, surrounding

churchyards, and the fixtures and furniture inside them.

St James received generous support for roof repairs, and our churches hope to benefit from further grants towards current major projects.

Ride + Stride is an annual sponsored event in which people raise money to support their local Christian places of worship.

In our parish there are a number of ways you can be involved on 14th September and help raise funds for GHCT:

Come to St James for a free breakfast between 9 and 11am, and sponsor the cooks.

Persuade your friends to sponsor you to visit churches on the day.

Join the group walk leaving St James at 11 to visit St Peter’s,

St John’s in Chipping Sodbury, St Mary’s and finally St Nix

before heading back to Westerleigh – buses 620 and Y5 provide

options to cut the walk short at various points.

Hywel is leading other cyclists on a route around the Churches of Yate parish (just over 5 miles) then, if your feeling energetic across the Fromeside Parishes. The cycle ride departs from St Mary's at 9:30 to join the cycle ride email hywel@yateparish.org.uk

Volunteer to be a welcomer in your own church on the day

(why not get sponsored for the time you give up to this task too!) Whatever funds you raise for GHCT can also benefit your own church, as half the sponsorship money will be returned

after the event.

For more details and sponsorship forms please contact Kathryn Mills (St James), Heather Smith (St Mary’s), Jenny Shiles (St Peter’s) or Iain MacFarlane (St Nix).
