Raising the Roof
In the past we have often suggested in jest that we should sing to raise the roof, but that is exactly what we are now doing at St. Mary's! Work on phase 1 of the roof-repair project is progressing well. The small amounts of rot and beetle infestation in the roof timbers has now been dealt with and work is beginning on relaying the lead valleys. However, it is no longer possible to obtain tiles of the same thickness as were originally used on the roof so we are having to use a thicker tile which will quite literally raise the roof!
The fund-raising efforts are continuing with an appeal to the people of Yate to help by sponsoring a tile. Each tile will cost £25 and the sponsor will receive a certificate confirming which tile they have sponsored.
We had originally hoped to be able to get back into church for our Easter services. However, the work has been held back by a week because of delays in completing the scaffolding and then the discovery of some signs of death-watch beetle. We will now be returning into church for Sunday 18th April and in the meantime services will continue in the Youth Centre.
