Archdeacon Christopher's Announcement
The Acting Bishop of Bristol, the Rt Rev'd Neil Warwick, is delighted to announce that the Rev'd Regan Meares will be the new Team Vicar of Yate. Regan will be licensed by Bishop Neil on 14th May at 7.30 pm in St Nicholas Church.
Regan is a great fit for Yate. His enthusiasm is infectious, he is a natural evangelist, and he brings wide experience in youth, schools and prison ministry. We look forward to welcoming him, praying for him as he moves and settles in.
Rev’d Peter Huxtable, the new Rector of Yate adds: “We very much look forward to welcoming Regan to our parish, thanking God for how he had led Regan here and the opportunity we have to ‘do a new thing’ under God in this place.”
Regan's Blog
Throughout my faith journey, God has blessed me with a variety of experiences in different forms of ministry. My life in ministry began in Hanham where I did 6 years as a Lay Minister. During this time, I felt that God might be calling me into ordained ministry and so I attended discernment days and the selection process to see if this was indeed my calling. After getting through the selection, I began to study at Trinity College. Once I had completed my studies at Trinity College, I began my curacy in Soundwell. This was a great time in my ministry as I leant how to lead services, baptisms and weddings. During my time in Soundwell, I was able to do placements at the BRI, Bristol University and HMP Bristol. These placements were helpful as they enabled me to think outside of the church walls. After completing 3 years of curacy, I began a placement in Patchway. My experience in Patchway has been a blessing as the church is focused on community and so I had the opportunity to work in the schools and with the youth club. Youth ministry is something which I hold close to my heart because I believe that the youth are the future leaders of our churches.
Whether you are in ministry or not, following God is no easy task. As I look forward to taking up my new role in Yate, I know there will be challenges along the way. In the midst of any challenge, I take comfort from two places. Firstly, I am comforted by the wonderful people who God has placed around me who support me and pray for me. Secondly, I take comfort from the word of God. Psalm 23 verse 4 reads, ‘Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord for you are with me.’ As I look ahead, I am excited to join the team in Yate and I know God will be with us all.
Rev Regan Meares.
